Crepuscolo Finale
Final Twilight
Final Twilight
"My being is lost in the absence of those who are no longer here. Without a hand to hold, I find myself lost in the abyss, the final twilight, immersed in the arduous solitude."
"The slow descent into the silence of solitude.
Crepuscolo Finale is a series of four oil paintings on canvas that explore the themes of abandonment, solitude, and gradual annihilation. Through the symbolism of the forest, the work gives visual form to the emotional journey of a being who, finding itself suddenly alone, cannot bear the weight of isolation. The tree, the protagonist of the narrative, becomes a metaphor for human resilience and its fragility in the face of loss and abandonment.
The first painting (70x50 cm) depicts a lush, vibrant forest, but one that is threatened by a gray sky slowly closing in on it. The rising fog evokes a sense of mystery and unease, while the sky’s pale blue struggles against the impending grayness.
In the second painting (45x60 cm), the landscape has drastically changed: only one tree remains, while around it are scattered stumps, remnants of the life that once surrounded it. The dark, leaden sky and the barren, bleak ground emphasize the desolation. Here, the tree's solitude becomes palpable, the vital green almost entirely gone.
In the third painting (50x100 cm), the threatening black sky heralds the inevitable storm. A warm light, a remnant of lightning, illuminates the lone surviving tree, yet it is succumbing to the weight of its fate: it is broken, on the verge of collapse, symbolizing the fragility of existence in the face of the relentless force of solitude.
Finally, in the fourth painting (80x40 cm), the pinnacle of desolation is reached: the brown, apocalyptic ground is populated only by cut stumps. Nothing remains of the tree that once stood against the emptiness; the horizon is barren, the gray and overcast sky dominates the scene, immersed in an irreversible silence.
Crepuscolo Finale is a reflection on the vulnerability of the human condition, its struggle against isolation, and the pain that arises from it. The tree, once part of a community, ultimately breaks under the weight of solitude, unable to bear the absence of those who surrounded it. The series challenges the viewer to confront the reality of abandonment, evoking feelings of despair and helplessness.
