"When consciousness shatters, the heart remains exposed, vulnerable to the bite of guilt."
Mixed media on canvas with three-dimensional elements
Dimensions: 100 x 100 cm
Vitrea Conscientia stands as a symbolic representation of the fragility of human consciousness, depicted as a floating glass plate in a dark space, penetrated by golden snakes—visual incarnations of guilt and destructive thoughts. On the glossy black background, shaded with a faint blue tint in the top right corner and illuminated by a dim amber light from the left, a glass plate represents the protective barrier of our consciousness.
At the center of the scene, suspended above the glass, a deep red human heart floats, detached from the canvas, symbolizing the essence and vulnerability of being. The glass, symbolizing consciousness, is shattered by the assault of ten snakes, each with different sizes and shades of gold. These snakes burst forth from the depths of the canvas, fragmenting the glass and threatening to reach the heart with their sinuous movements.
One of these snakes, at the bottom left, rises with its mouth wide open, ready to strike the heart, while others move stealthily between the fragments, making the impending threat palpable. A smaller snake, perhaps a viper, clings to the heart but looks outward, directing its gaze beyond the artwork, toward the viewer, as if involving them directly in the psychological tension.
The scene is completed by a play of light and reflections created by the shattered glass fragments, whose reflections amplify the sense of inner chaos. Vitrea Conscientia represents the fragmentation of consciousness under the pressure of guilt and negative thoughts, which, freed from the protective barrier of the mind, threaten the heart itself—the essence of life and identity.
